At Turbo Plumbing Solutions, we tackle some of the toughest drain blockages in North Brisbane. Our latest YouTube video showcases an epic drain rescue that had us clearing out mountains of mud and sand from a severely clogged stormwater system.
The challenge at hand involved a driveway that sloped towards the garage, with a grate at the front struggling to handle heavy rainfall. The pit beneath the grate was filling up rapidly during rain events, indicating a serious blockage in the system.
Our seasoned plumber, Gavin, arrived on the scene ready to diagnose and solve the issue. Armed with state-of-the-art equipment, including our trusty R2D2 vacuum and high-pressure water jetter, we set out to tackle this stubborn blockage.
Upon inspection, we discovered that the pit was essentially a makeshift solution, with the top cut out of storm flex piping. This less-than-ideal setup allowed dirt and debris to wash directly into the system during rainfall, exacerbating the blockage over time.
We began by using our powerful vacuum to remove the accumulated mud and debris from the pit. This initial clean-out revealed the extent of the problem – layers of sediment and potential root intrusions further down the line.
Next, we deployed our high-pressure water jetter to clear the pipe. As we worked our way through the system, we encountered significant resistance, likely due to compacted mud, sand, and tree roots. Our experienced team carefully manoeuvred the jetter, ensuring we didn’t damage the existing pipework while effectively clearing the blockage.
The video captures the moment we break through the toughest part of the clog, with a satisfying rush of water flowing freely through the newly cleared pipe. However, our work didn’t stop there. We thoroughly cleaned the entire accessible length of the pipe, removing years of built-up debris and root intrusions.
Throughout the process, we identified several areas for improvement in the existing drainage system. We recommended installing a proper concrete pit to replace the makeshift solution, which would significantly reduce the amount of dirt and debris entering the system in the future.
