The situation: A homeowner’s shower drain was backing up, causing water to overflow onto the bathroom floor. Not ideal for anyone’s morning routine! Our mission was clear – find the blockage and clear it efficiently.
Upon inspection, we discovered the culprit – a mass of tree roots had infiltrated the pipes between the floor waste and the outside gully. This is a common issue in many Brisbane homes, where mature trees can wreak havoc on underground plumbing systems.
Armed with our high-pressure water jetter and CCTV camera, Gavin got to work. The video takes you through the entire process, from initial inspection to the satisfying moment when the drain finally clears.
Here’s what we encountered:
- A challenging mix of roots and debris blocking the pipe
- Possible remnants of DIY chemical treatments (which we don’t recommend!)
- An offset in the pipe that had become a prime spot for root intrusion
Using our specialised equipment, we were able to clear the blockage without causing damage to the existing pipework. The high-pressure water jet made short work of the roots, while our camera allowed us to pinpoint the exact location of the problem.
The result? A fully functional shower drain and one very relieved homeowner. But our job didn’t end there. We also provided advice on preventing future blockages, including the recommendation of a drain re-line to protect against further root intrusion.
